RPA for dummies? – No for People

Is RPA aimed at dummies? No, RPA is for people. The automation of repetitive computer tasks by using of software robots takes away workload which can be performed by people but where they are not applying any human thought, they are just following a process.

When people undertake repetitive tasks that do not engage them, the chance of human error is increased. It is partly what makes us human. Of course, computer systems are designed to validate and catch errors, but they cannot prevent valid values being wrongly entered e.g. transposing digits – 39 / 93. This is one of the great benefits from automation as computer software will do the same thing every time – 100% consistency and predictable, which means a better quality of result.

In periods of hot weather across the UK, staff who are feeling hot will find it more difficult to concentrate and hence there is more chance of human errors being made while doing repetitive tasks.

With software robots able to work at speeds of 10 times of a person, the deployment of RPA to assist staff can give them a “Happy Hour” – whether that is used for other work activity, leaving early for the pub for a cooling drink or something else, is a decision for a person not a software robot.
