Hyperautomation RPA

2020 the year for Hyperautomation

Gartner the leading independent computer industry analysts have place “Hyperautomation” as the number one trend for 2020 in their report “Top 10 strategic technology trends for 2020”.

WHAT IS HYPERAUTOMATION?

Hyperautomation brings together several components of process automation, integrating tools and technologies that amplify the ability to automate work.

It starts with robotic process automation (RPA) at its core, and expands automation capability with artificial intelligence (AI), process mining, analytics, and other advanced tools.

The idea is to automate more and more knowledge work, and engage everyone in an organization to be part of the transformation. This achieves depth and breath of the automation activity across an organisation. It is more than the term “Intelligent Automation” as that can be applied to a single instance, Hyperautomation is for the collective implementation of many instances of automation.

UNLOCK THE AUTOMATION OPPORTUNITIES

In order to grasp the opportunity for Hyperautomation, a business can:

  • Empower everyone in the organization—business and IT—to automate and contribute to the transformation without fear
  • Enable people and robots to automate together, from basic processes to more complex, long-running, end-to-end business processes
  • Manage the full cycle of automation, from discovering automation opportunities to measuring the ROI
  • identify and automate all possible business processes, using the evolving set of Al technologies to extend the range of potential automation instances

Hyperautomation is not a single programme of work but becomes part of an organisation’s culture. It is a continuous cycle of “Automate, Monitor, Analyse” so that Automation is continually enhanced and extended across an organisation.

WHY 2020 FOR HYPERAUTOMATION?

The last few years have seen robotic process automation (RPA) become established in global corporations and artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged into daily life from many angles including “Smart Speakers”, “Sat Nav” guidance, Netflix and Spotify recommendations, and eCommerce adverts on social media. The fear of the millennium bug caused many businesses to change core IT systems leading up to 2000, the adoption of cloud systems has been occurring for a decade and the desire for “Digital Transformation” has been growing, 2020 is the start of the decade where the speed of IT change really accelerates.

With the technology proven, as main stream business organisations gain more understanding of the potential benefits available from automation, a number additional factors will be the catalyst for action on automation to take place. These include:

  • Economic forecasts are starting to predict that businesses are finding it harder to recruit.
  • Millennials in particular are seeking and expecting more interesting jobs making any role with high level of “Repetitive” work difficult to fill.
  • Growing recognition that for the UK, the productivity conundrum of “Doing more with less” cannot be solved without automation.
  • Competitive pressure to operate faster, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to keep pace with the operation of global corporations like Amazon that have set customer expectations.

With this commercial environment, is “Doing Nothing” or “Doing the same as 2019” going to be good enough for success in 2020 and beyond?

With the UiPath software vendor being a leading technology, it is an interesting quirk that an anagram of  Hyperautomation is “On to my UiPath era” which describes the transition to the start of more automation. It is a one-way change, nobody wants to remove automation and go back to manual processes although there will always be a place for artisan craftsman.
